在2021年4月5日发布的Kellen的Petty Talk Show的邀请中，Patrick Casey和Josh Miller表达了对制作第三部“索尼克电影”的兴趣，甚至提到为了流畅而从《刺猬索尼克2》中删掉的一个“蛋头博士”场景，他们想要重新加入到第三部电影中。[3]
刺猬索尼克3于2022年2月15日在ViacomCBS投资者连线日上宣布，比刺猬索尼克2的发行提前了两个月。[1][4]
2022年5月13日，编剧Pat Casey和Josh Miller在克拉马斯社区学院（Klamath Community College）主办的漫画书展（Comic book convention）上客串出席，回答了粉丝们对他们参与编写的电影的问题。在谈到《刺猬索尼克3》的话题时，Casey和Miller被问及他们有兴趣将哪些情节改编成电影，他们表示有可能从《索尼克大冒险2》和《刺猬夏特》中汲取灵感。在回答有关影片中夏特的配音演员的问题时，凯西和米勒表示他们打算请一个大电影明星来配音夏特，并已经有了一个特定的人选，不过他们还没有收到他是否接受该角色的回复。还有一位问到是否可以在《刺猬索尼克3》的高潮部分使用"Live and Learn"这首歌，Casey和Miller回答说这有一定的可能性，他们还表示制片人已经意识到了粉丝们对Crush 40的支持，并讨论过该乐队的参与。在回答金·凯瑞是否会出现在《刺猬索尼克3》中的问题时，凯西和米勒回答说该电影目前仍处于“蓝天阶段”，即他们正在考虑所有可能的方式，同时试图找到电影的正确方向，因此目前尚不确定金凯瑞是否参与。最后，他们还表示预计《刺猬索尼克3》将在大约两年后发布。[5]
