Sonic J最初是在2000年6月6日出现在JavaOne新闻发布会上,由世嘉和摩托罗拉官宣,作为两家公司之间的一项交易的一部分,即世嘉为摩托罗拉的新型手机生产几款基于J2ME的游戏。[3][4][1]同时还宣布了几款其他游戏,包括Sonic's Bomb Squad、Sonic Head On和Sonic Logic。[1][4]
