Christian Whitehead一直是Sonic粉丝站Sonic Retro上的长期和知名用户，他在那里发布了几款粉丝游戏，其中最知名的是Retro Sonic。2009年，Whitehead录制了一个关于《Sonic the Hedgehog CD》的概念演示视频，该游戏运行在Whitehead自己的游戏引擎Retro Engine上。在概念视频中，游戏已在iPod Touch上播放。[1] 同年7月，他联系了Sega，告诉他们关于他的重发计划。
