Christian Whitehead一直是Sonic粉絲站Sonic Retro上的長期和知名用戶，他在那裏發佈了幾款粉絲遊戲，其中最知名的是Retro Sonic。2009年，Whitehead錄製了一個關於《Sonic the Hedgehog CD》的概念演示視頻，該遊戲運行在Whitehead自己的遊戲引擎Retro Engine上。在概念視頻中，遊戲已在iPod Touch上播放。[1] 同年7月，他聯繫了Sega，告訴他們關於他的重發計劃。
